Course Overview

This course is aimed towards any student over the age of 18 who would like to improve their English in every day settings. This course also assists students who are considering taking further studies in Australia and would like to improve their English skills before taking an exam preparation course.

Della International College offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Course Credit to students through the enrolment process.

Della International College recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs.

Please consult with the Compliance Manager for further information if you are unsure if either of these apply to you.

This program will be delivered over 12-73 weeks. This course is delivered face-to-face in a classroom environment. Assessment consists of weekly, topic-related tests and an end of level test.

Delivery Weekly Hours 

Each week, students will attend 20 hours of face-to-face/online training and assessment.  

Beginner

This level focuses on developing basic vocabulary and pronunciation skills as well as basic literacy skills such as writing and spelling. Topics include: basic question forms, using simple tenses, exchanging basic information and expressing likes and dislikes in regard to films, sports and clothes.

Elementary

In this level students learn to make simple sentences and reply to simple questions. Students also learn to talk about familiar topics such as family and routines and learn structures to help them in daily life such as ordering a meal at a restaurant or shopping.

Pre-Intermediate

This level introduces a wider range of grammatical structures and vocabulary to allow students to participate in conversations and to write and understand simple written text. Topics include shopping, fashion, writing biographies and basic story telling.

Intermediate

In this level students learn to participate in a wider range of conversations about various different topics, extract the important information from texts, and learn to understand lectures, meetings and TV programmes.

Upper Intermediate

In this level, students learn to participate in longer conversations and focus on writing about and understanding a variety of different topics. Topics include money, transportation, talking about plans, and more advanced grammar structures for discussing ability.

Advanced

Students learn to write and understand formal, academic and professional documents and by the end of this level students will be able to easily understand films, television programs and other media. Other example topics include advanced time expressions, talking about learning languages, work, mobile phone culture, and technology.

Participants will be advised of the assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit.

Assessment will usually commence in the session following delivery and may take considerable time to complete both the theory and practical requirements. As this is a competency-based program, assessment continues throughout the program until the participant either achieves competency in the assessment tasks or a further training need is identified and addressed.

The assessment process may consist of weekly, topic-related tests and an end of level test.

Upon enrolling into Della International College, we request that you disclose if you have any medical conditions as there may be contraindications to the course you wish to enrol into. Should you have a medical condition, you will be asked to provide Della International College with a certificate of capacity from your Doctor, clearing you and allowing you to participate in classes.

Upon enrolment and on your first day of class you will be provided with an orientation of the course and how it is structured. You will also be given a Student Handbook which outlines and covers all of Della International College’s policies and procedures; inclusive but not limited to Privacy policy, Complaints, Appeals, Withdrawals and other processes. Our operating hours are 9:00 AM till 5:00 PM Monday to Sunday. All classes are held between these times.

Each course consists of holidays during term breaks, public holidays, Easter, and Christmas Breaks. All students are notified in advance of any upcoming breaks.

Every student is scheduled to attend classes for 20 hours per week. The 20 hours per week is usually divided into two full day and one-half day classes.
